Exchange 2007 and Decommssion of Exchange 2000

    Hi All,

I have logged this call with MS but currently had no joy...

We are 99% migrated to Exchange 2007 and the final task is to decommission the Exchange 2000 servers. We thought we would just turn off the Exchange 2000 servers to see if any clients were actually reliant on them prior to decommission. Once they were off we found that some users were still trying to connect to the public folders on the Exchange 2000 servers from their Outlook 2007 clients.

When you boot the Outlook client up it hangs on start up as it is trying to connect to an Exchange 2000 PF which one we do not know!. (We have none left that were created by us). The only ones that exist are the system public folders. For some reason some clients are still requesting information from the Exchange 2000 PF’s. We have made replica's so they all point to the Exchange 2007 servers and replication is insync too.. We have also recreated outlook profiles but nothing works!!

We have worked through the following all to no avail:

    KB307917

Has anyone experienced anything similar in the decommission of Exchange 2000?

    Please help

    Regards Paul

    Hi,

Hmmm. I haven't personally, however, I believe I have seen something similar in a thread on one of the MVP distribution lists.

I will post your problem there and see what happens.

Also could you let me know the support case number.

    Cheers

    Nathan

Re: Exchange 2007 and Decommssion of Exchange 2000

    Right the story continues........

I have now been advised to include all Exch 2007 servers that have a PF store as replica's in all the PF Exch 2000 system folders. Except for OWAScratch Pad & StoreEvents. I am now waiting for the replication to work. (FYI - A great tool to use is the PFDAVAdmin )

Once replication has happened I will shut down the Exch 2000 servers and try an Outlook client to see if the connection issues have ceased.

I will post an update tomorrow.

Re: Exchange 2007 and Decommssion of Exchange 2000

    Right then all sorted now!!!

Very simple really. The London based Exchange 2007 storage groups were pointing to the London based exch 2007 public folder store so no users in London were effected. But the issue was with the Manchester, Paris and Dusseldorf users all of the configured storage groups were for some reason still pointing to the old Exchange 2000 servers which had been shut down to see if anyone was reliant on them. Changed the site based sg's to point to their local exch 2007 pf servers and all is now happy again..

    Bye for now..
