    Phased migration, co-existence with GroupWise...

Just got this confirmation from Quest, regarding GW to Exchange migration...

    Not good news...

    Declan,

If you want to coexist you have to have a 2k3 server in the org.

Our tool does not need the connector to migrate but you will need it for coexistence I am afraid.

Coexistence between GroupWise and Exchange 2000/Exchange 2003 can be established by using both the Microsoft Exchange Connector for Novell GroupWise and the Microsoft Exchange Calendar Connector. Microsoft will not provide an Exchange 2007 connector for GroupWise. If you want to migrate from GroupWise to Exchange 2007 and to use the Microsoft connectors during a coexistence period, you need to have an Exchange 2003 server to talk to GroupWise. The catch is that you cannot install an Exchange 2003 server into an existing Exchange 2007 site!

The attached doc outlines the procedure.

At this stage I am not sure where our product sits - I will do some digging and find out if we can dispense with the 2k3 Exchange box.

    Hi,

    I know it really sucks!

I did a design for exactly this migration scenario with the Quest tool in mind. That was when they told us at TechEd they were writing a connector.

Now they turn round and say "oh no, sorry you must use a 2003 box"!

Of course that rather changes things! Now I have to do a transition from 2003 to 2007 as opposed to a clean 2007 install.

    Argh!

Ah, so it was you!  I knew someone told me about Quest and the GW connector but couldn't remember who it was.  I pinged my Quest contact a month or so ago and got this same story.  Annoying.

    Tell me about it!

Really annoying seeing as now you need a 2003 server for connectivity which then means having to do the whole transition thing...

we did install the exchang 2003 first but Exchange 2007 does not recognize the groupwise address

    Hello Everyone

I would like to inform about another groupwise to exchange migration tool which i came accross while googling

Kernel for Novell GroupWise to Exchange software. Its site says it can migrate to exchange 2007 and use of the connector is not mentioned.

    http://www.nucleustechnologies.com/migrate-groupwise-to-exchange.html

Can be tried for exchange migration
