Mail forward from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 between cross Forest

We have a below scenario at a customer.

Customer has exchange 2003 organization for eg. exchange.abc.com (external domain name @contoso.com). Now customer have created a new Exchange 2007 organisation for eg. exchange1.xyz.com. Customer would like to move/migrate few mailboxes from 2003 to 2007. These moved/migrated mail boxes should be able to send and receive emails to Exchange 2003 and Internet.

All external emails are delivered to Exchange 2003.

    My questions are:
    1. Would you move the mailbox or migrate the user account and mailbox from 2003 to 2007?
    2. How will you ensure external emails are delivered to Exchange 2007 for moved/migrated mailboxes? (configure send connectors?)
    3. How do you configure 2007 organisation users to use external domain name? (shared SMTP namespace?)
    4. ILM will be used for GALSync. What are the attributes we need to synchronise to ensure both systems function (TargetAddress, LegacyExchangeDN?)
I would appreciate if you could forward me any documents/information you may already have to me.

Also, if there is anyone out there who has done this and if there are any caveats/lessons learnt.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

So you have a separate forest.

Will this just be a resource forest for Exchange or will it replace the existing forest?

If resource forest then you need linked accounts if not then you need to start migrating the accounts using something like ADMT

Send connectors with contacts in the original org would work for mail routing, or you could use Quest tools which can handle this for you.

I'm afriad I haven't done a forest sync like this with ILM sorry
